The recent beef between 50cent and Floyd Mayweather will definitely warrant the update of this article. Till then, let’s walk down memory lane and check out 5 of the biggest celebrity beefs of all time.
1. Kanye West Vs Taylor Swift
This epic feud has been going strong ever since Kanye West infamously interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at MTV’s Video Music Awards in 2009. The two publicly made up the following year and West even opened up about doing new music with Swift in 2015.
“She wants to get in the studio and we’re definitely going to go in,” West told Ryan Seacrest. “I don’t have an elitism about music, I don’t discriminate.”
But their music plans quickly fell through after West released his song “Famous” in 2016. West rapped, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that b—h famous.”
Swift was very vocal about her dislike of the lyrics at the 2016 American Music Awards, where she accused West of undermining her success. Months later, West’s wife, Kim Kardashian West, put a rest to the he-said-she-said battle and posted several videos of Swift and West discussing the songwhere it appears as if she approved of the track’s message.
2. Kanye West Vs Jay Z
Kanye made his hurt about former pal Jay-Z known during an October 2016 concert. He claimed the rapper didn’t call after his wife, Kim Kardashian, was robbed at gunpoint in Paris. not stopping there, Kanye also complained that their kids never get to play with Jay-Z and wife Beyonce’s daughter, Blue Ivy.
The rapper continued with his rant a month later where he claimed that Beyonce refused to perform at the VMAs unless she won Video of the Year over him and again complained about Jay-Z not calling. Jay Z addressed the beef during in an interview in 2017 saying that lyrics on his 2017 album were “not a diss” against West.
He, however, confirmed that was still hard feelings between the two. “What really hurt me was you can’t bring my kid or my wife into it,” Jay-Z explained. “You brought my family into it, now it’s a problem with me. That’s a real, real problem. And he knows it’s a problem.”
The major issue between these two leading ladies was communication. Taylor Swift and Nicki got into a huge argument back in July 2015, following MTV’s announcement of its nominees for Video of the Year. Recall Nicki Minaj’s hit song “Anaconda” was excluded from the pack of nominees (Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Beyoncé and Mark Ronson), an omission which got the Chun Li rapper to take to her Twitter account venting and tweeting that the award only “celebrates women with very slim bodies.” Swift took offence to this tweet as she assumed that Nicki was referencing.
In no time, Swift replied to Nicki’s tweet writing; “@NICKIMINAJ I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot…” The pair went on at it for a while singer Ed Sheeran, and even Kim Kardashian had to chime in. Weeks later, the artistes resolved their issue and even performed together at the 2015 MTV VMAs.
This beef came to life from Taylor’s issue with Nicki. Miley Cyrus had called Nicki Minaj out in an interview with New York Times interview, for her “not so nice” comments about Taylor Swift. Nicki retaliated by unexpectedly calling Cyrus out during the 2015 MTV VMAs which the Hannah Montana star had hosted.
Nicki was quoted saying; “And now back to this bitch that had a lot to say about me in the press: Miley, what’s good?” Nicki who made this statement on stage while receiving her award added; “Don’t play with me, bitch!” Till date no reconciliation has been reported.
The clash between Donald Trump and Megyn Kelly first happened at the GOP debate she moderated on August 6. Kellyt had questioned his statements about women. In a follow-up interview, Trump slammed the Fox News host, calling her a “lightweight” then told CNN’s Don Lemon that “you could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.”
The issue turned bigger between Trump and Fox News, which has continued to stand behind Kelly despite the multiple times Trump says bad things about her on air and on social media. Things, however, took a dive when the Trump campaign announced on January 26 that he will not be partaking in the 2016 presidential final debate because Kelly was one of the moderators. “Unlike the very stupid, highly incompetent people running our country into the ground, Mr. Trump knows when to walk away,” a statement from Trump’s camp read.
“Roger Ailes and Fox News think they can toy with him, but Mr. Trump doesn’t play games.” Fox News, of course, replied saying; “We can’t give in to terrorizations toward any of our employees. Trump is still welcome at Thursday night’s debate and will be treated fairly, just as he has been during his 132 appearances on Fox News & Fox Business, but he can’t dictate the moderators or the questions.”
